Every morning I pack a bag and take my dogs for a romp around the countryside. We have too many ‘favourite’ coffee spots. They are all stunning… even on the greyest and foggiest of days it beats being in the office!
Of course there are always the mornings when you just don’t feel like it at all; when the sky looks like lead and you know you’re going to be soaked the moment you step out of the door. But the people here have a saying, there is no such thing as the wrong weather, just the wrong clothes and I’ve certainly found this to be true.
Even on the days when you really (really) don’t feel like it, once the waterproofs are on and the flask is filled, with the addition of a little incentive (usually chocolate or cake) in the backpack to look forward to, it always feels better to have gone out… even if it’s just to enjoy the blazing fire when you get back!
Thankfully we get more than our fair share of sunshine too. Dumfries and Galloway is just over the water from Cumbria and the same adage often said of the Lake District applies here also; if you don’t like the weather, wait half an hour. Just in the space of typing this post I’ve watched the elements cycle through sunshine, rain, sleet and then back to sunshine again. My advice; get out in the countryside, whatever the weather throws at you… you’ll nearly always be glad that you did!
